What’s Next For Wilder?
WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is coming off of a complete wipeout of former champion Bermane Stiverne onNovember 4th. The Alabama native was originally scheduledto Luis Ortiz butthe Cuban heavyweight failed a drug testfor high blood pressure medication. Since that time the WBC has reinstated Ortiz and cleared him of all accusations.
According to sources 3KingsBoxing.com has learned that a deal is being worked on for Wilder to face Ortiz next. The terms of the deal and how close they are to an agreement was not disclosed but it is expected to be agreed to.
Ortiz is set to returnthis Fridayagainst journeyman Daniel Martz, 16-5-1, on FS1. This fight is for Ortiz to try to stay sharp and for the 38-year-old to knock some rust off because he hasn’t been inthe ring since December of last year.
With the Joshua/Parker unification likely to happen in the first quarter of next year this fight is an acceptable fight for Wilder to take and would give him a legitimate top 5 heavyweight on his resume should he win.
