Will DeGale Campaign at 175?

DeGale looking strong within the light heavyweight division

Former IBF super middleweight champion James Degale (25-2-1 15KOs) knocked out Fidel Munoz (39-19, 31KOs) at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in California.

The biggest question that remains is “what’s next for the 32 year old British boxer?” This fight was at a catchweight of 172 pounds and could be an indication that a move up in weight is looming.

It would explain a lot if this was the plan to ease into the light-heavyweight division. He would be joining former opponent Badou Jack who managed to become the WBA champion there.

If Degale does decide to move up, it may also help him with conditioning. It is known he has stamina issues in the second half of his fights. Not having to cut weight could be exactly what his body needs.

Make no mistake, if he continues to have the same troubles with opponents that appeared at 168, he can enjoy short success at 175.

Moreover, 175 is one of the most stacked divisions in boxing with some big-time punchers.

Possible opponent could be Jean Pascal, Blake Caparello or an in house fight with Anthony Yarde. One very good scenario is if Callum Johnson defeats Artur Beterbiev for the IBF light-heavyweight title. This would potentially be a big U.K. bout.

Until a decision is made all we can do is ponder the thoughts of possibility. One thing is for sure, Degale will have to make a decision soon if he wants to further his career.
