Xander Zayas Dominates Patrick Teixeira In Step-up Fight
In his first official step up match, super welterweight fighter Xander Zayas (19-0, 12 KO’s) completely dominated and defeated Patrick Teixeira (34-5, 25 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision.
The older, more seasoned Teixeira opened the match by meeting his youthful foe center ring and provided lively back and forth action. Yet, his zeal for mutual combat began to wane in the third and fourth rounds as Zayas increased his work rate and intensity.
With the arrival of the fifth, Zayas was operating like a buzzsaw and slicing into Teixeira’s head and body with a near non-stopping flurry of thumping blows. To his credit, the veteran never folded or looked for a way out. But once the momentum shifted in Zayas’ favor, it never hinted at going back in the other direction again.
Throughout the entirety of the second half of the match, Zayas harassed and battered Teixeira all around the ring. Barring a few random significant shots here and there, Teixeira did little outside of retreat from his Puerto Rican tormentor and posture to show that he was not surrendering. Obviously, naked evasion and an anemic offensive output does not win fights.
Therefore, when the match went to the cards, Zayas walked away with a predictable unanimous decision to the tune of 100-90 (twice) and 99-91. With the comprehensive win under his belt, it will be interesting to see who Xander Zayas takes on in his next duel.
