Bruce Carrington Beats the Challenge of Brayan De Gracia by KO
While serving his latest tour of duty, talented featherweight contender Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (12-0, 8 KO’s) picked up an impressive ninth round TKO. In this affair, Carrington was initially challenged by his very game opponent, Brayan “La Roca” De Gracia (29-4-1, 25 KO’s), who came out notably strong in the opening rounds and successfully troubled Shu Shu with his aggression and busy hands.
By the closing moments of the third round however, Carrington was beginning to establish his own offensive success. The Brooklyn native shifted the battle into his favor by sinking in sharp, heavy hooks and uppercuts while calmly operating in the pocket. The fifth period was the first round that was completely one-sided in Shu Shu’s favor. In fact, in the final minute of the fifth, Carrington was able to pummel De Gracia with a flurry of shots that put him down.
After continuing to trounce La Roca in the sixth, the #4 (WBO), #7 (WBC) and #12 (IBF) ranked Carrington put his foe down for a second time in the seventh. Clearly seriously hurt, yet full of heart, De Gracia lasted, but was finally stopped in the eighth round. In his post-fight interview Carrington expressed his interest in facing undisputed junior featherweight champion Naoya Inoue, who was in attendance.
