Xolisani Ndongeni Took Away Nestor Bravo’s Undefeated Record
In a junior welterweight showdown, veteran Xolisani “The Wasp” Ndongeni (33-6, 19KO) scores a big win over top-rated Nestor Bravo (23-1, 16KO).
Bravo came out looking to throw one shot at a time. He threw an effective jab, but the Wasp’s awkwardness caused the Puerta Rican problems.
In the second round, Bravo scored a knockdown that shifted momentum in his favor. He even mixed up the attack to the body and doubled up on the jab.
Ndongeni won the middle rounds with sheer volume. He landed hard hooks and countershots as Bravo never took his head off the centerline.
Bravo tried to close out the rounds with a flurry of shots. But, the South African controlled the majority of the rounds.
Ndongeni’s movement, speed, defense, and counters were on point. Going into the closing rounds, Bravo needed to fight with some urgency. He found a home for the right hand that buzzed Ndongeni. He finally picked up the pace and landed more punches, putting Ndongeni on the backfoot.
When the final bell sounded, one judge scored it 97-92 for Bravo, and two judges saw it 98-92, and 95-94 for Ndongeni.
