Yankiel Rivera Takes Charge Over Andy Dominguez

2021 Olympian Yankiel Rivera “El Doctorcito” Rivera (5-0, 2KO) survived a scare against Andy Dominguez (10-1, 6KO) in a ten round flyweight contest.

Rivera dominated virtually every round behind slick footwork, upper body movement and crisp combination punching. Making the slow, plodding Dominguez look one-dimensional was probably easier than he expected.

Then in the ninth round, complacency had Rivera fighting in the pocket for too long. The result was a damaging hook that buckled the former Olympian. Rivera tried to hold until he could regather his senses. Meanwhile, Dominguez desperately tried to take advantage of the situation, but he could not overcome the inferiority of his skills. After surviving the round and staying out of trouble in the tenth, it was easy for the judges to give Rivera the nod. However, he almost gave that one away!
