Yoenli Hernandez Trying To Break Into The Big Leagues
Confident middleweight boxer Yoenli Hernandez (8-0, 7 KO’s) is looking to continue his elevation following his latest win. In what was billed to be a step-up bout, the versatile Cuban dropped, brutalized and mildly humiliated Kyrone Davis en route to an impressive unanimous decision win.
Heading into the match Hernandez held the #4 (WBC) standing, leaving him with several appealing options. Fresh off collecting Davis’s scalp, while absorbing exceedingly little damage, the Cuban may want to target #2 (WBC) Chris Eubank Jr. Eubank Jr. is himself rebounding from a satisfying unanimous decision over long-time rival Conor Benn.
Yet, while they are in close proximity within the rankings, the forward-thinking Eubank Jr. will likely set his mind to chasing a title shot versus reigning WBA 160-pound champion Carlos Adames. So, we’ll have to wait and see what is in the cards.
JR #2 ON THE MENU
If not Eubank Jr., there is a chance that Hernandez can entice #3 (WBC) Shane Mosley Jr. (22-4, 12 KO’s) into the ring. While the UK import’s name may come with a bit higher market value, the established name of Mosley Jr. does carry its own weight. One would think that Mosely would be on the hunt for a duel himself, having been out the ring since retiring elder warrior Daniel Jacobs last July 6, 2024.
In the Cuban, Mosley Jr. would definitely find an opponent with far more spit and vinegar than Jacobs was able to muster. Which is exactly why it’s an interesting and meaningful fight in that race to the title. Let’s see if Team Mosley is on the same page. Regardless of whether it’s Eubank Jr., Mosley Jr. or someone else, Hernandez’s recent glossy win will certainly be a feather in his cap going forward.
