In the heavyweight division, a potentially bout could be on the horizon, featuring WBO Interim titlist Zhilei “Big Bang” Zhang (26-1-1, 21KO), and the top-rated fighter, Efe Ajagba (19-1, 14KO).

The heavyweight division awaits the undisputed showdown between WBC champion Tyson Fury and unified champion Oleksandr Usyk take place. Amidst this anticipation, the clash between Zhang and Ajagba could be the next big fight to capture the fans’ attention.

During intermission of the Ajagba vs. Joseph Goodall fight, Big Bang was interviewed, and upon learning of Ajagba’s interest in facing him, Zhang had a stern message for his potential opponent.

“Everybody calls me hypnotic in the ring. I’d put him to sleep.” via translation.

THE PATH TAKEN BY THE TWO FIGHTERS

Zhang has proven that his first victory over Joe Joyce was no fluke, as he secured an impressive third-round knockout in their rematch. As the holder of the interim title, he’s next in line for a title shot, although that opportunity may not come until 2025.

Many within the boxing community believe that the Chinese boxer should have an undefeated record. In 2022, Zhang fell victim to a questionable decision against IBF mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic.

On the other hand, Ajagba has rebounded beautifully since suffering his first career defeat at the hands of Frank Sanchez. On November 4, he avenged his amateur loss to Joseph Goodall with an impressive stoppage victory

Ajagba holds the WBC silver title and is currently ranked #7 in the WBC and #13 in the IBF. He has been displaying significant improvement with each fight, particularly in the killer instinct department.

The unfolding of this heavyweight potential showdown will undoubtedly be a captivating storyline as we head into 2024.
