Carlos Adames Batters Austin Williams; Next Move Undecided

In his first match of the year, and third defense of his title, WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames (25-1-1, 18 KO’s) secured a solid UD win. He did this by outclassing a game but outmaneuvered Austin “Ammo” Williams (20-2, 13 KO’s) to the tune of 118-108 and 117-109 (twice).

With the win, Adames has now put his February 22, 2025 draw with Hamzah Sheeraz and dehydration issues behind him. Clearly this fresh victory has the WBC champion in a great headspace. In the aftermath of the duel, Adames did not mention any specific names he desired next. However, Adames did let it be known that he was willing to tangle with anyone at 154, 160 or 168.

If the Dominican boxer chooses to attempt any unifications in his current division, his options are limited to Erislandy Lara (WBA). The IBF and WBO titles are vacant. Given his apparent willingness to move up, perhaps Adames will challenge WBC super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli. Then again, Mbilli may take on Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September.

In the instance that Adames moved down, then he’d have names such as Xander Zayas, Sebastian Fundora and Jaron Ennis to mull over. With so many variables available, we will just have to wait and see what direction Team Adames heads next.
