Adrien Broner Calls Golden Boy’s Bluff & Challenges Ryan Garcia

Four-division champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (34-4-1, 24KO) seems to find a way to remain relevant. This time his name is attached to top junior welterweight contender “King” Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19KO) for a potential showdown in 2024. The Ohioan wasted no time in sending a message to Garcia and Golden Boy executives.

Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy Promotions, revealed they attempted to make a Garcia vs Broner matchup. During an interview with The 3 Knockdown Rule Podcast, he claimed Broner turned down the offer, citing a desire for a tune-up fight.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

The Problem prides himself on not shying away from any opponent. So, he wasn’t going to let this stand and quickly took to social media to reveal that the news was all new to him.

“@goldenboy I never knew about the offer for a fight with @Kingryan. I’m just now finding out about that as we speak, but I’m here to let you know I don’t need a tune-up for anything. After Ryan takes care of business in December, we can make it happen asap! I’m the same person who fought @mannypacquiao; why would I be afraid of ‘saving Private RYAN’? Send the CONTRACT!!!!!!”

Earlier this year, Oscar De La Hoya had shown significant interest in promoting Broner. What particularly sells about the problematic fighter is his pre and post-fight antics, which would be on full display during the build-up. The four-division champion knows this is the twilight of his career but he can still be a live dog.

Garcia needs to take care of business against Oscar Duarte Jurado on December 2. If he emerges victorious, there’s a good chance that the two fighters could meet sometime in 2024. The potential clash between Broner and Garcia promises to be a thrilling encounter.
