Will Adrien Broner Make his Promised Grand Return? Can He Revive his Career?
Without question, Adrien “The Problem” Broner (34-4-1, 24 KO’s) has navigated an interesting career. He is a multidivisional champion, had a lucrative relationship with HBO, piloted a rocky coexistence with his ‘big bro’ Floyd “Money” Mayweather and he has even shared the ring with the great Manny Pacquiao. Sadly though, like so many talented boxers, Broner has been plagued by mental distractions that have significantly diluted his potential.
The Cincinnati native’s insistence on pursuing musical endeavors, maintaining a late-night persona and dabbling in street life has led to stagnation in his career. This is all the more unfortunate because for all things considered, The Problem has all the elements of a superstar. He totes legitimate skills, has a serious chin, knows how to talk and plays the lucrative role of in-ring villain to perfection. Yet, in and out of the ring, Broner is his own worst problem.
In fact, barring his defeat to Marcos Maidana, The Problem has never truly been manhandled in the ring. His most detrimental attribute in the squared-circle is his infuriating inability to consistently let his hands go. Rather than attack with regularity, Broner is comfortable shelling up and throwing occasional counterpunches. This predisposition to minimalism has repeatedly cost Broner on the score cards.
SING THAT SONG ‘GATOR!
Now, Broner is back singing the familiar song and dance that he is rededicated to the sport and ready to make a major run again. He is certainly a high-profile fighter. Therefore, everything is in place for The Problem to enjoy a great resurgence in the sport. Also, due to his name value, he should not find himself lacking in great potential fights.
It’s not a stretch to potentially hear that Broner penned a match with up-and-comers Conor Benn, Vergil Ortiz Jr or Jaron Ennis. Or, it’s just as likely to hear that The Problem will duel a Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman type of opponent. Broner was recently formally called out by fellow Ohioan Montana Love. No matter who he fights, if he actually returns, lets just hope that Broner is fully committed during this next stint of his career.
