Efe Ajagba Steamrolls Martin and Renews World Title March

Heavyweight contender “The Silent Roller” Efe Ajagba has a long road back into the mainstream spotlight, even after victory over one-time champion Charles Martin. A fight with top contenders Filip Hrgovic or Martin Bakole could be next.

The climb back into relevance in the heavyweight division has been a journey for The Silent Roller since losing to Frank Sanchez back in 2021. After putting together a string of solid victories, he suffered a small setback after getting a draw against Martin Bakole. However, things could be looking up for the Nigerian following a fourth-round stoppage against Martin on February 15.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE HEAVYWEIGHT CONTENDER

Ajagba looked sharp while working behind the jab and landing the right hand with precision. After scoring knockdowns in rounds three and four and landing several unanswered punches, he forced the referee to stop the fight. It’s questionable if this will open any doors for him, considering his alignment with Dana White of Zuffa Boxing.

The prerogative for Zuffa Boxing is not to recognize any of the governing sanctioning bodies. Yet, this didn’t keep them from signing IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia. However, if he desires a title shot, that would likely involve working with promoters such as Frank Warren, who promotes Hrgovic. Perhaps a deal can be struck with Ben Shalom of Boxxer for a rematch with Bakole.

Ranked #6 by the WBC, Ajagba’s march toward the title is in full swing. Furthermore, he has sharpened his skills, and it showed with that dominant performance over Martin. There is still more work to do, but it seems he is ready.
