A Victorious Ali Akhmedov Could Push Gabriel Rosado into Retirement
On September 17, #6 (IBF) super middleweight contender Ali Akhmedov (18-1, 14KOs) will look to continue his winning ways. Akhmedov will take on battle-tested world title challenger Gabriel Rosado (26-15-1, 15KOs). Akhmedov is 2-0 since being stopped in the twelfth round against Carlos Gongora in December of 2020. He’ll be looking to stay on course of getting a world title opportunity.
Conversely, Rosado is simply looking to pick up a much-needed victory to preserve the little life he has remaining in his career. The Philly native is 2-4 in his last six fights. His most recent loss came by decision to former 154-pound champion Jaime Munguia. Other previous defeats were serviced by former 160-pound champion Daniel Jacobs, middleweight contender Maciej Sulecki and fringe contender Shane Mosley Jr. For his wins, Rosado was able to pull off a major upset in 2021. He stopped highly touted super middleweight prospect Bektemir Melikuziev in three rounds.
The 36-year-old Rosado is extremely ripe for the picking. This bout presents Akhmedov a chance to close the chapter on Rosado’s highly entertaining career. The tough veteran has faced a Who’s Who of top guys champions, contenders, and prospects in his career. However, Akhmedov is a very dangerous and talented fighter with a lot of power. This has the makings to be a painful exit for one of boxing’s toughest fighters of the last decade.
