Ali vs Munguia: A Battle in The Shadows

Ali makes first title defense against hungry challenger

WBO junior middleweight champion Sadam Ali (26-1-1, 14KOs) is set to make the first defense of his newly won WBO title against the hard hitting yet unknown, unproven and undefeated Jamie Munguia (28-0, 24KOs).

Their twelve round bout will take place in New York, live on HBO. Ali is coming off of what many see as a major upset of future hall of famer and four division champion Miguel Cotto last December.

Originally, Ali was set to face former WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith, but Smith pulled out of the fight due to a skin condition.

In his place is Munguia a guy who’s very young at the age of 21 but sports an undefeated record with an 86 percent knockout ratio.

Munguia is extremely untested and unproven, but Ali who’s been knocked out before by the light punching Jessie Vargas, has to be aware of Munguia’s power if he wants to retain his title.

One has to figure that Ali’s confidence is at an all time high coming off of his biggest win to date over a sure fire hall of famer, while fighting in his hometown of New York.

While I think this fight will be competitive I’ll side with the champion in this one due to experience, the hometown advantage, and a decent skill set.
