Khan to return in April
Former World Champion Amir Khan’s big news was revealed today at a press conference in London. He has signed with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing with his first fight slated to happen on April 21st, at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. The opponent has yet to be announced. Although Eddie Hearn has said this will be announced next week.
It has been nearly 2 years since we last saw Khan in a boxing ring, the knockout at the hands of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez still fresh in our minds.
The initial deal with Matchroom is a 3 fight deal with Khan having high hopes of becoming a world champion again.
Khan’s success as a world champion came at light welterweight with wins over Zab Judah, Andreas Kotelnik, Pauline Malignaggi and of course the all action fight against Marcos Maidana. It remains to be seen whether he can do well against the likes of Keith Thurman, Errol Spence Jr or even whether we will finally see him take on Sheffield’s Kell Brook.
Say what you will about Khan, but you can’t deny his fights are exciting to watch.
I wish him well.
