WBO orders Andrade v Alimkhanuly purse bid

3KingsBoxing had previously reported that the WBO ordered a match between WBO world middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (31-0, 19 KOs) and Janibek “Qazak Style” Alimkhanuly (11-0, 7 KOs). The move was done after Alimkhanuly manager Egis Klimas petitioned the sanctioning body to name Alimkhanuly their mandatory challenger.

NO DEAL REACHED

At that time, they had twenty days to agree, or the fight would go to a purse bid. We now have an update on the proceedings. Neither party was able to agree to a deal. So, on November 21, the WBO ordered the bout to go to a purse bid. That purse bid will take place on January 15, 2022, with the starting bid being $200,000.

Andrade is coming off a second-round stoppage over Jason Quigley on November 19. The champ wants a unification bout with WBC world 160-pound champ Jermall Charlo and IBF world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. So far, neither man has expressed a serious interest in fighting the 33-year-old southpaw.

Alimkhanuly’s last bout was an eighth-round TKO over former two-time world middleweight titleholder Hassan N’Dam on November 19. With only eleven professional fights, the 28-year-old has been moved very quickly by Klimas. However, he’s been very impressive and already looks to have the skills and composure to compete at the world championship level.

WHO LANDS THE FIGHT

Andrade is with Matchroom Promotions while Alimkhanuly is with Top Rank. How hard will both promotional entities push to secure the bout? If Matchroom wins the purse bid, Andrade v Alimkhanuly will air on the DAZN streaming service. Should Top Rank wins out, the contest would air on one of the ESPN platforms.
