Demetrius Andrade Goes Directly to Jermall Charlo to Make the Fight
It’s no secret that two-division champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (32-0, 19 KO’s) has been clamoring for a big fight for years. Unfortunately for him and the fans, this has not come to pass. So, in an attempt to take matters into his own hands, Andrade reached out to WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (32-0, 22 KO’s). The two have been involved in a years-long family feud that dates back to when Andrade’s fight with brother Jermell Charlo imploded well back in 2014.
Yet, in a recent Q&A with Punsh Drunk Boxing, Boo Boo gave a somewhat hopeful update.
“That is the best fight to be made at 168 pounds, right now, today! It only makes sense . . . he was understanding of giving me his number when I texted him on IG. Like, ‘yo bro, we need to talk, let’s just have a real conversation, me and you, no extra shit. Boom – he shot me the number, called him within an hour, he called me back. It was a Sunday and we just chopped it up and we just talked about the ongoing situation and what is it that we want to do and how can we make it happen.”
CHANGING THE NARRATIVE
There is no question that a boxing battle between Charlo and Andrade would make for great entertainment. And to be honest, it’d be great look for both competitors. In particular, Hit Man has come under great fire in the industry for his lack of activity and quality opponents. By the time that Charlo next steps in the ring, he will have been inactive for a full two years.
His anemic fight schedule and tepid list of middleweight adversaries is held in stark contrast with his brother, Jermell. This is because Jermell Charlo is the undisputed super welterweight champion. And in his campaign to achieve that status, Jermell took on the best available opposition match after match for the last several years. Therefore, a high drama shootout between Jermall Charlo and Andrade could be just what the doctor ordered to inject new life into Charlo’s somewhat sagging career and reputation.
Its hopeful to hear that Charlo and Andrade are conversing in a much more civil fashion. However, we will have to wait and see if it materializes into anything of substance. Thankfully, no matter what transpires, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news!
