Demetrius Andrade Takes Shots at Jermall Charlo

Even though COVID-19 has brought boxing to a crushing standstill, this has not prevented numerous fighters from calling one another out. In the latest round of this brand of activity, WBO world middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (29-0, 18 KO’s) took public shots at a fellow middleweight champion.

Via his Twitter account, Andrade claimed that both WBC world middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (30-0, 22 KO’s), and his coach, Ronnie Shields, understood that he was out of their league. It is commendable that Andrade is making his call-out a highly visible matter. Although, there remains significant doubt that he will be able to secure the fight.

STILL NO REINDEER GAMES FOR ANDRADE

Sadly for Team Andrade and his fan base, Boo Boo has remained frustratingly blacklisted for the majority of his professional career. Whether due to promotional issues, fighters curving him or just bad luck, the big time marquee bouts that Andrade has craved have almost universally eluded him.

There is no secret that Boo Boo has energetically pursued a prizefight with boxing cash cow and WBA world middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KO’s). This pursuit spanned a number of years and over multiple divisions.

In fact, a huge part of Andrade’s motivation to matriculate into the Matchroom Boxing stable was to get in a better position to face some of the bigger names on DAZN. Figures such as Canelo and IBF and IBO world middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KO’s). Yet, like a plate of pork ribs at a Muslim mosque, his fellow stablemates have only talked down on Andrade and left him untouched.

WHO WANTS TO RUMBLE??

Since he is being systematically neglected by the ones who theoretically it would be the easiest to pen a fight with, Boo Boo is looking to other stables. In this case, he has his eyes on the Charlo and the PBC. Similar to Andrade, neither GGG nor Canelo have shown any interest in facing the Hit Man in the ring. So from that stand point, it does make sense for him to target Charlo.

To make things a bit more optimistic, Charlo has not only stated that he would box Andrade, he made it clear that he is even open to making a one-fight deal to fight on DAZN. Provided the money was worth making such a move, of course. Outside of this however, there has never been much traction achieved in trying to finalize a Charlo v Andrade showdown.

In an ideal world, the two teams would get their heads together to make the tantalizing event a reality. Both men are in the prime of their abilities, the fight would be a significant unification and their styles should match up well, action-wise. Hopefully, since nothing is happening for the next few months, this will give the two team’s ample time and opportunity to hammer out the details.
