Andres Cortes Receives a Gift Decision Against Abraham Nova
Top-rated junior lightweight contender Andres Cortes (22-0, 12KO) got a gift decision victory over Abraham “El Super” Nova (23-3, 16KO).
Being a two-time title challenger, El Super used that experience to keep the fight at mid-range. He even went to body looking to slow down the younger fighter that missed weight. Yet, Cortes was able to make it an inside-fight game. He attacked the body and started finding a home for that overhand right.
For some reason, Nova abandoned the idea of boxing and fought on the inside. He was surprisingly successful in doing this and was beating the #2 WBO-rated fighter to the punch. Realizing he was on the verge of losing the fight, Cortes turned it up and started landing different variations of the righthand. He even started attacking the body more frequently.
In the closing rounds, Nova used that experience to close the show as he attacked with relentless aggression. The Puerto Rican came forward connecting with those righthands and uppercuts. Two judges scored it 97-93 and 96-94 in favor of the hometown fighter, Cortes. 3Kingsboxing strongly disagrees with this scorecard and scored it 97-93 for Nova.
