Anthony Joshua Believes The Time Is Right to Make The Tyson Fury Fight

Two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (24-3, 22KO) believes WBC champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (33-0-1, 24KO) needs him following the collapse of the undisputed showdown with unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.

By now, everyone in boxing is aware that negotiations for undisputed between Fury – Usyk are officially dead. The most fans can hope for is both teams revisit trying to make the fight later in the year.

Usyk can expect the WBA to keep their promise of ordering the Ukrainian to fight WBA Regular champion Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois. It is unclear what is next for The Gypsy King now that undisputed is no longer an option. His promoter, Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, hinted the WBC champion could retire.

IS NOW THE TIME TO REVISIT JOSHUA VS FURY?

Joshua has been on the receiving end of failed negotiations with Fury in the past. While talking to the media, AJ explained why the time to make a fight with Fury is now.

“We’ve tried to make the fight twice . . . we had this recent one where I just lost and he gave me a deadline. . . but it wasn’t time permitted. And I think now, I feel like there’s no better time. I feel like now Fury, providing the Usyk fight doesn’t happen and he doesn’t fight anyone in between, I think he needs me at the minute.”

Joshua has a valid point. Fans in the United Kingdom are still eager to see their two top fighters get in the ring. It’s still a financially big fight, regardless if it’s not undisputed.

Before boxing fans can jump the gun, Joshua must take care of business in the upcoming battle against Jermaine “989 Assassin” Franklin at the O2 arena on April 1, live on DAZN.
