Arely Mucino vs Gabriela Fundora Hits Inglewood on October 21
Arely “Ametralladora” Mucino’s (32-3-2, 11 KO) first defense of the IBF women’s flyweight title will occur on October 21. According to ESPN, Mucino will face Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora (11-0, 4 KOs) at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
A three-time world champion at 112, the defending champion has been one of the best flyweights in the world for nearly a decade. She won the IBF belt with a split decision victory over Leonela Paola Yudica in October 2022.
Observers of women’s boxing have considered Fundora an elite prospect and have raved about what Sweet Poison has shown in the ring. Her last outing was an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Maria Micheo Santizo in April 2023.
SEASONED VETERAN VERSUS HUNGRY YOUNGSTER
Mucino is a true professional. The 34-year-old from Monterrey, Mexico is excellent at all aspects of the game. But she’s facing a 21-year-old Fundora who, at 5’9”, is an imposing figure for a flyweight.
Sweet Poison can use her length and condor-like arms to keep opponents at bay. But she also can fight in close quarters and is a good body puncher. On paper, this is a fascinating matchup that pits the experience and guile of Mucino against the youth and raw talent of Fundora.
