Wilkens Mathieu Overcomes Vladimir Shishkin and Seeks to Capitalize
In his latest tour of duty, super middleweight contender Wilkens Mathieu (17-0, 11 KO’s) picked up his second victory of the year. Mathieu pulled this off by defeating Vladimir Shishkin (17-3, 11 KO’s) by way of split decision. When the cards were revealed, Mathieu prevailed with the final tallies of 97-92 (Shishkin) and 98-92 twice, for Mathieu.
When questioned about his next move, the Canadian bruiser wasted no time in expressing his interest in fighting for a world title as quickly as possible. Despite his eager nature though, Mathieu neglected to call out any name specifically. Currently, Mathieu holds the favorable standings of #8 (WBC), #14 (IBF) and #15 (WBO). While he has this strong position, it would not be a grand shock if none of the champions, Chrisian Mbilli (WBC), Osleys Igelsias (IBF), Hamzah Sheeraz (WBO) or Jaime Munguia (WBA), chose to accept his challenge.
With his foothold however, he is in the realistic striking range of Jermall Charlo (#7 WBC) and Diego Pacheco (#3 WBC). Although, if we are being honest, there is an overtly glaring probability that neither Team Charlo nor Pacheco value the star power or fan excitement that Mathieu can summon up. Said to say, there is an excellent chance that the next time we see Mathieu in action it will not be with a champion or marquee fighter.
Given this reality, following this tough and well-earned victory, we will just have to wait and see what Mathieu and his team can come up with next.
