Bob Arum Cuts All Ties to Tyson Fury Advisor Daniel Kinahan

Top Rank founder and top dog Bob Arum can be accused of many things. However, being a dumb man is not one of them, for the former lawyer. Arum has been a part of some of the sport’s most iconic moments and sealed many a historical deal. Having navigated this tricky sport for the length of time that he has, Arum has learned when to cut his losses and walk away. This is more or less what is taking place right now in regards to Tyson Fury advisor Daniel Kinahan. Daniel Kinahan, 44, is the man who in large part helped secure Fury’s deal with ESPN.

The Irishman is also responsible for founding the boxing and mixed martial arts company MTK Global. The operation primarily represented British boxers such as Michael Conlan, Billy Joe Saunders and the aforementioned Tyson Fury. Unfortunately for Arum and Fury, Kinahan is also globally known for supposedly being a key figure in an international drug syndicate. His accusers state that his organization traffics a staggering amount of drugs in Europe and carried out quite a few killings.

HOT IN THE STREETS

Now, the US government has joined in on the pursuit of bringing Kinahan to justice. According to the New York Times, there is a $5 million reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Daniel Kinahan, his father, Christy, and his brother Christy Jr. While he was long believed to be involved in criminal activity, the current level of scrutiny aimed at Kinahan did not begin until February 5, 2016. That is when three men armed with AK-47’s, and dressed like military, stormed a weigh-in and shot up the event in Dublin, Ireland.

David Byrne was killed in the attack and later, career criminal Gerry “The Monk” Hutch was arrested for the murder on September 29, 2021. Hutch is still undergoing those legal proceedings and believed to be a high-profile target of Kinahan’s associates. Given the current climate of the situation, it only makes sense that Arum wants to put a little bit of breathing room between himself and Kinahan. The infamous promoter said as much to ESPN.

“I’m a law-abiding American citizen and I will adhere to those sanctions. [I will] not have any business relationship or any other relationship with him, period. End of story. There’s not even an argument there. The US government doesn’t make an allegation like this unless there is evidence to back it up. So, case closed. You cannot take the US position and treat it lightly. It’s very, very serious for the US to say what they’ve said.”
