Bob Arum Says Shakur Stevenson v Vasyl Lomachenko Possible in 2023!
When it comes to pure boxers, current unified 130-pound champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (18-0, 9KOs) and three-division world champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (16-2, 11KOs) are two of the best. Also, it’s no secret that Stevenson is on record saying that he’d love to fight Lomachenko. According to both men’s promoter, Bob Arum, it’s a fight that must happen in 2023.
Lomachenko hasn’t fought since his dominant win over former IBF 135-pound champion Richard Commey last December. However, earlier this month, it was revealed by Todd DuBoef that the three-division champion was gearing up for an October return.
Stevenson returns to the ring on September 23 against Robson Conceiço. A victory would propel him into a showdown with the Ukrainian superstar.
Speaking to fighthype.com, Bob Arum spoke on the need for Stevenson v Lomachenko to happen in 2023.
“In our own stable, hopefully we get Lomachenko back in action. [If everything is okay], he gets leave from the Ukrainian military. We can get Lomachenko in action in October and then next year, a lot of ways for Lomachenko to go. One fight that has to be made, []… probably next year, a fight that everyone would die to see is Shakur Stevenson and Lomachenko, and both guys want that fight.”
If this fight is indeed on tap for next, it’s going to be one of the best fights that could be made. Let’s hope that both men continue their winning ways because that will allow for this bout to come to fruition.
