Bakhram Murtazaliev Can Stop Josh Kelly In The Later Rounds

On January 31, IBF junior middleweight champion, Bakhram Murtazaliev is looking to make a statement against Josh “Pretty Boy” Kelly. The Russian champion has all the tools to stop Pretty Boy in the later rounds.

Most of the boxing community is looking forward to the WBO junior welterweight championship bout between Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson. However, early in the afternoon on that day, Murtazaliev will clash with Kelly in a fight that isn’t receiving much attention.

INTRODUCING THE FIGHTERS

Pretty Boy (17-1-1, 9KO) has come a long way since losing to two-time title contender David Avanesyan in 2021. During his seven-fight win streak, he picked up some solid wins against Troy Williamson and Ismael Davis. However, he will need to step up his game against the likes of Murtazaliev. Kelly can’t showboat and keep the fight at a distance. In addition, he can’t fade in the second half of the bout.

Murtazaliev (23-0, 17KO) has been on a mission. In addition, he has added a different level to his style with a power jab. After a disappointing performance against Jack Culcay in April 2024, the Russian made the boxing public take notice by dismantling one-time champion Tim Tszyu in three rounds. His come-forward style and ability to fight in the pocket have made opponents crumble under the pressure. Moreover, he has improved footwork and loves throwing punches in bunches.

WHO WINS AND WHY

Despite the fact that Murtazaliev hasn’t fought in fourteen months, this author still believes he will be the victor. His counter-punching, body attack, and relentless pressure will be too much for Kelly. Furthermore, he gets stronger as the fight continues, which is Kelly’s Achilles heel.

Yet, his biggest asset is his mental toughness. Murtazaliev has broken the will of several fighters and is ready to do it by way of a late stoppage over Kelly on January 31.
