Barney-Smith Calls For A Fight With Carroll

In a solid 130-pound showdown, “Sugar Boy” Royston Barney-Smith (17-0, 8KO) easily defeated Reece “Bomber” Bellotti (20-8, 15KO). After the fight, he said he wanted to face IBO titlist Jono “King Kong” Carroll (26-3-1, 7KO).

The fight was void of excitement, although Sugar Boy’s fast hands, movement, and body shots were on full display. His corner had to warn him about staying on the ropes and allowing Bomber to get off some hard shots. As the fight came to a close, Barney-Smith finished the fight strong against a determined Bellotti.

When the final bell sounded, all three judges scored it for Barney-Smith. With this fight in the rearview mirror, he will definitely get a bump in the rankings, and a fight with King Kong should happen this time around.

In the post-fight interview, he wasted little time calling out the IBO title holder.

“I’m after Jono Carroll; I was meant to fight him tonight here in Dublin, his hometown, and I can’t see him anywhere.”

“So that’s what I am looking for next.”

The two fighters were supposed to meet in the ring. However their teams couldn’t come to a financial agreement, and the fight never materialized. It seems that Barney-Smith is refusing to let it go.
