Mario Barrios vs Manny Pacquiao Ruled a Majority Decision Draw
In his latest at bat, WBC welterweight champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KO’s) turned in an abysmal performance against boxing living legend Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KO’s). Despite being out of the ring for more than four years, a severely aged, withered and frightfully diminished Pac Man power walked his way to a majority decision draw.
Rather than using his youth and vigor to rush and overwhelm Pacquiao, Barrios passively waited for Pac Man to get off first for virtually the entire bout. Why the champion performed in such a toothless manner is anyone’s guess. Yet, for the current moment, it’s all academic as this duel is now in the books.
The greatest tragedy is now more life has been breathed into Pacquiao’s professional career. Without question, Pac Man is one of the most fascinating and entertaining fighters to lace up a pair of gloves. Those days are done though, and they are not returning. This match was not a reversal of time but rather a revealing of Barrios’ ineptitude as a champion.
Sadly, in their post-fight interview, both men showed interest in staging a rematch. With this being the case, there is a high likelihood that this contest sees an immediate rematch. So, while Pacquiao lives to fight another day, the general boxing world is sighing with disinterest.
