Oleksandr Usyk – Not Terence Crawford – Is The Best Fighter Today
Two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is hands down the best fighter of this era. He has done what no other fighter of this generation has done in under 25 professional fights. Even if Terence “Bud” Crawford beats Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight crown, it still doesn’t top Usyk’s achievements.
On July 19, the Ukrainian turned in a spectacular performance by stopping two-time champion Daniel “Dynamite Dubois in the fifth round. In the author’s opinion, he cemented the claim to being the top fighter of this era by defeating all the division’s top fighters in a row.
Except for maybe Errol Spence Jr., two-time undisputed champion Crawford hasn’t beaten the same caliber of fighters as Usyk. Some will say he’s better than the two-time undisputed heavyweight champion if the Nebraskan beats Alvarez.
It’s worth mentioning Usyk has given the best fighter tag to Crawford in a recent interview with Carl Froch. Yet, several pundits and fans feel the Ukrainian has earned the title more, based off his entire body of work.
However, if Bud stops Alvarez, something no one has ever accomplished, than we need to revisit this conversation. All eyes will be locked in come September 13.
