Bellew wins by 5th round stoppage
Tony Bellew stopped David Haye in the fifth round of their eagerly-awaited rematch on Saturday night.
The 35-year-old Bellew followed up his win last year with another victory over his heavyweight rival at London’s O2 Arena.
Both men were fighting for the first time since they last faced each other 427 days ago when Haye’s corner threw in the towel in the 11th round.
This contest was settled much sooner though, with 37-year-old Haye going down twice in round three before hitting the canvas for a third and final time in the fifth. Haye managed to get up but the referee stopped the fight seconds later.
Haye had previously said should he lose the rematch with Bellew he would retire from the sport. He hasn’t announced his decision but after another injury suffered in the third round today it would be somewhat surprising to see him back in a ring.
