David Benavidez continues his hazing of Jermall Charlo

Arizonan and two-time WBC super middleweight champion David “Red Flag” Benavidez (25-0, 22 KO’s) is known for his punishing style. If given his way, Benavidez delights in coming forward behind a thumping jab used to setup his debilitating body shots. This methodical system for breaking his opponents down, more often than not, results in a knockout. In his last tour of duty, versus Kyrone Davis, the undefeated fighter did not disappoint. Following a tedious first round filled with chasing a squirrely Davis around, the bout achieved real traction in the second and third periods.

When Davis became more willing to engage, Red Flag plunged him into a grinder of tight counter hooks, short uppercuts and a river of body shots. After seven rounds of physical malice and scientific brutality, Davis’ own corner was compelled to throw in the towel. It’s no secret that Benavidez is a strong favorite to stand opposite undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KO’s) in his next bout. This is why he was quick to say his name after his bludgeoning of Davis. Alvarez was not the only person that Benavidez had choice words for, though.

RUN TELL THAT!

Along with pursuing a dustup with the redhead, Red Flag has put real energy into securing a showdown with WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (32-0, 22 KO’s). The two pugilists have an extensive history of jaw-jacking at one another in the media. Even though, the fight would be a smart move by both men, it has gone unmade. Sadly the onus of his situation appears to fall on Charlo’s shoulders. At one point, the Hit Man came off as more than willing to dance with Red Flag.

Regrettably however, when it came time to take realistic action to make the fight a reality, Charlo began offering up quite a number of hurdles. He even went so far as to say that Benavidez would have to get the COVID vaccine before they fought. While this might have been said in jest, it’s no joke that of the two, it’s only Charlo saying why it can’t happen. Naturally this has led Benavidez to think much less of him. And in his post-fight interview, Benavidez told the world exactly how he felt about the Hit Man.

“Charlo want to get it too? He don’t want to get in the ring with me because he is a pussy, that’s why!”
