Jose Benavidez Jr. calls out Shawn Porter!

Fresh off of his first fight in three years, Jose Benavidez Jr (27-1-1, 18KOs) is already looking towards future fight possibilities. The older brother of two-time WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez made his long awaited return in front of his hometown in Phoenix, Arizona. While he was forced to settle for a majority draw against an opponent many people felt won, that didn’t stop Jose Benavidez from attempting to pick a fight with Shawn “Showtime” Porter (31-3-1, 17KOs).

In the post-fight press conference Benavidez was informed of comments made by Crawford regarding him being the WBO champion’s toughest opponent and most difficult fight of his career. While returning mutual respect to Crawford, he quickly turned his attention to Porter over comments the Ohio native made about him.

Porter stated that he had everything plus more than Benavidez in regards to Crawford. He stated that the elder Benavidez brother posed the most difficulty thus far in his career. Well, those comments didn’t sit well with Jose Benavidez at all and he let it be known.

LETS FIGHT, THEN!

He said the following about Shawn Porter.

“He said that I gave him the best fight of his career to Terence Crawford, but that he has everything I have plus more. Honestly, I don’t see anything special in Shawn Porter, and if you guys have seen the video of me sparring him when I was way younger, you know I was giving it to him.

I feel like Crawford is a crafty fighter. He’s a champion for a reason and he’s going to beat Shawn Porter. Shawn Porter has nothing special. He doesn’t have a jab, he doesn’t have a good hook, he doesn’t even hit hard. All he does is smother people and move his head like he just started boxing. So, I mean after he gets his ass kicked by Crawford, maybe we can setup a meet. Since he says he has better abilities than me, we can make that happen. Cause I know this guy is not gonna run and I know he’s gonna bang, so we’ll see who’s the bigger banger.”

It’s quite obvious that Porter has bigger fish to Fry than Benavidez. However, if the former world title challenger can get back on track, maybe a fight between the two down the line can come to fruition. Truth be told, Benavidez needs to go back to the drawing board and focus on getting better and remaining healthy. Especially considering the poor showing he just displayed against Francisco Emanuel Torres.
