Benavidez dominates Gavril over 12
In the co feature of Showtime Boxing from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, David Benavidez (20-0, 17KOs) successfully defended his WBC Super Middleweight Championship against a very game Ronald Gavril (18-3,14KOs) in the rematch. The scores were 120-108 2x, 119-109.
Benavidez came out using his jab as a range finder. In the second round Benavidez came out throwing more power punches and looking sharp early on. The third was more Benavidez pushing the pace landing his shots as Gavril kept coming. In the fourth round Benavidez came out throwing more power punches and landed the cleaner and harder shots as he made Gavril buckle with a beautiful uppercut.
The fifth round was more of the same with Benavidez landing behind his jab as Gavril kept coming forward with ineffective aggression. Benavidez kept letting his hands go landing some big shots on Gravil in round six. In the seventh it was more of the same with Benavidez landing the big shots.
Benavidez just looked stronger and better than Gavril, letting his hands go while landing his power shots. Gavril was game. Maybe Benavidez really was affected by being sick prior to the first fight as he seemed to be winning this fight more convincingly. Gavril was all beat as he kept coming forward but just didn’t have the same success as the first bout. In the end Benavidez won a unanimous decision erasing any doubts from the first bout.
