Beterbiev Wants Stevenson Next

Artur Beterbiev Wasting No Time As He Calls Out Adonis Stevenson

Fresh off of winning the vacant IBF Lt heavyweight title Artur Beterbiev didn’t waste any time asking for his next fight. Beterbiev saidearly this morning thathe would like to fight WBC Lt Heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson next.

“I realized a dream by winning this belt. I am very happy, I’m ready for Adonis. It’s not personal, it’s only athletic. I just want another belt.” Beterbiev said.

Beterbiev is technically still underthe same promoter as Stevenson, GYM Promotions. Although the Russian has a pending court date in an effortto break free fromthe promoter. Itis unclear how long this legal action may tamper with what is already a somewhat stagnant career for Beterbiev.

I want to sign a new contract with another promoter,” said Beterbiev. But that will all dependonthe courts decisionof course.

Beterbiev beat Enrico KoellingSaturdaynight by 12th round KO in a Top Rank on ESPN card. The bout was the first televised fight of the night and was viewed by almost 2M people making it second most watched boxing event on cable. Only Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn done better. Top Rank won a purse bidfor this fight and added it to the Jose Ramirez vs Mike Reed card in Fresno, Ca.

While fans would certainly like to see a unification fight, it’snot likely to involve Stevenson. The WBC champion is currently in negotiations to defend his title against former WBA champion Badou Jack. Let’s hope boxing fans, let’s hope.
