“Chocolatito” Makes His Return On December 23 in Japan!

After being idle for the past 15-months due to injuries, four-division world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez will make his return to the ring in December in Japan.

According to Nicaragua’s La Prensa, Gonzalez (47-2, 39 KO’s) will join the December 23 world title triple-header in Yokohama, Japan. The card also features title defenses from WBA “Regular” World Middleweight champion Ryota Murata, and WBC World Light Flyweight champion Ken Shiro. IBF World Flyweight champion Moruta Mthalane will also guard his strap.

The fighter once regarded as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the sport will face Diomel Diocos (14-5-3, 4 KO’s) in an eight-round contest at a contracted weight of 116-pounds. Gonzalez has been hard at work training in Coachella, California since September 8.

Truthfully speaking, Diocos is a very underwhelming opponent. He has lost 3 of his last 4 bouts. Based on his resume and video observation of his past fights, the 26-year-old does not have the talent to pose a serious threat to the 32-year-old Gonzalez.

While it is noteworthy that his return will be on a high-profile card in Japan where he’s a popular and well-respected, truth be told, this upcoming fight is little more than an effort to get “Chocolatito” back into the swing of things after a long layoff.
