Stanionis vs Thurman Winner Should Be Priority One for Boots

IBF Interim welterweight titlist Jaron “Boots” Ennis (30-0, 28KO) should set his sights on the winner of the upcoming showdown between WBA Regular welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis (14-0, 9KO) and former unified champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (30-1, 22KO).

Social media is abuzz with the news of Stanionis vs Thurman being part of the upcoming Showtime Pay-Per-View on December 9. This is the perfect time for Boots to publicly callout the winner of this matchup immediately afterward.

At one point, the undefeated Philadelphian was actively pursuing a fight with Thurman. Frustrated by the situation, he conveyed to YSM Media that the former unified champion doesn’t appear to be entirely focused on boxing.

THE INTERIM CHAMPION SHOULD BE NEXT

As for Stanionis, he and Ennis have expressed a desire to face each other. The Lithuanian openly embraced the opportunity. However, he later suggested that a tune-up fight might be necessary before jumping straight to Ennis.

It’s somewhat ironic that the two fighters with a past connection to the IBF Interim titlist are now squaring off against each other. Nonetheless, it makes sense, considering Stanionis and Thurman have been out of the ring since 2022.

The WBA Regular champion’s most recent appearance in the ring resulted in a victory against his amateur rival, Radahab Butaev. Thurman’s last fight was a comeback victory over Mario Barrios.

With undisputed champion Terence Crawford currently occupied, the details surrounding a potential rematch with Errol Spence are yet to be resolved. The best move for Team Ennis is to actively pursue a showdown with either Stanionis or Thurman for 2024.
