Zurdo Ramirez Homes in On 2024 Badou Jack Title Fight
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (45-1, 30 KOs) is a fighter hungry to win another world title. His representatives are hopeful that chance will come in 2024 against reigning WBC cruiserweight champion Badou “The Ripper” Jack (28-3-3, 17 KOs).
A former world champion at 168, Ramirez made his cruiserweight debut with a unanimous decision win over Joe Smith Jr. on October 7.
Golden Boy is the promoter of Zurdo. During an interview with ProBox TV, the CEO of the promotional company, Oscar De La Hoya, disclosed that Ramirez is already back in the gym. They are hoping to have Zuro back in action in early 2024.
HUNTING FOR A WORLD TITLE FIGHT
Of the reigning world champions at cruiserweight, Jack is at the top of their list. De La Hoya is optimistic that he can make a contest between Ramirez and the WBC champion.
“We’re looking forward to those negotiations and looking forward to hopefully fighting him for a world title. I do like Badou Jack (as the opponent). I do like the Badou Jack fight for Zurdo . . . It’s a fight that is very, very intriguing to me.”
Being optimistic is one thing. It’s another thing for it to become a reality. Jack hasn’t fought since winning the WBC title with an eleventh-round stoppage over Ilunga Makabu in February 2023. At this point in his career, the 39-year-old Jack wants fights with a significant payday.
Can Golden Boy entice the champion with a big enough offer? It’s not the first time De La Hoya has mentioned a fight between Jack and Ramirez. De La Hoya hopes it’s more than wishful thinking on his part.
