Interim Champ Brandon Figueroa Wants WBC Champion Rey Vargas Next!
In a back-and-forth, high stakes WBC Interim featherweight title fight between former world champions, Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa (24-1-1 18KO) came alive in the second half to defeat Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo (24-1, 16KO). Now, it’s time to look toward a title fight against WBC champion Rey Vargas next.
The first half of the fight saw the quick combination punching from Magnifico controlling the tempo and slowing the aggression from Figueroa. In the second half, The Heartbreaker turned it up, landing brutal body shots that turned the tide.
Both fighters fought hard until the final bell, with Figueroa dealing more damage between the two. After two point deductions, two judges scored it 117-109, and one had it 118-108, in favor of Figueroa.
BRING ON THE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE FIGHT NEXT
It was first thought that this fight would be for a potentially vacant WBC title, as Vargas tried to win the vacant WBC junior lightweight title. However, he came up short against O’Shaquie Foster and decided to hold on to the title.

In the post-fight interview, he was asked about fighting Vargas next.
“I’m next! I want more world titles, more world champions, and let’s give these fans a good fight. That’s what it’s all about.”
