Angel Fierro Stops Eduardo Estela; Eduardo Nunez Stops Jesus Ceyca

Uruguay’s Eduardo Estela (14-2, 9KO) came into the match-up with NABO champ Angel “Tashiro” Fierro (20-1-2, 16KO) riding high on an upset victory over then-undefeated prospect Ruben Torres on the under-card of Regis Prograis vs Jose Zepeda in November 2022. This only prompted Fierro to keep the pressure at a maximum with a high-octane pace.

The pressure effectively did not give Estela time to think. Instead, he took considerable damage round after round. The gas tank of Fierro and the heart of Estela were both phenomenal. Every punch Fierro threw had bad intentions. Estela landed a few counter punches, but the Mexican was just too determined.

In round four, Estella finally crumbled to the canvas under the pressure. He regained his feet, but would incur more damage en route to getting dropped again as the round ended. Remarkably, he rose again, ready to continue the fight! Amazingly, the Uruguayan came back in the fifth round and arguably won the round!

As the fight wore on, naturally Fierro’s pressure slowed down a bit. As a result, Estela had some great moments where he looked to maybe have turned the fight around. Then in round seven, the pressure broke the Uruguayan for a final time. A left hook mid-combination put Estela against the ropes and dropped him to the canvas. The referee waived the fight off before the fighter could get comfortable on his back.

Fierro has talked about wanting to fight undisputed lightweight champ Devin Haney before. However, in the post-fight interview, he didn’t stop there. He mentioned Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz as potential targets.

EDUARDO NUNEZ (24-1, 24KO) VS JESUS MARTIN CEYCA (17-1, 8KO)

Eduardo “Sugar” Nunez was able to keep his perfect win/knockout ration intact as he swept through the formerly undefeated Jesus Martin Ceyca in two rounds. Nunez is known on the Mexican circuit for his power and was eager to show the world why he should be considered a top contender at junior lightweight. Ceyca showed he was very aware of Nunez’ reputation as he looked to maintain distance early on. He tried to circle away from his opponent’s strong side, but didn’t have the work-rate to keep the power-puncher at a distance. Every shot thrown from Nunez seemed to knock Ceyca off his rhythm.

The stalking paid off in the second round as a window of opportunity in the form of a dropped left hand allowed Nunez to unload all of his power into a right hook. Ceyca caught the punch flush on the chin and immediately went to sleep before hitting the canvas. The referee didn’t bother nor need to administer a count. With this performance, Nunez may have positioned himself for bigger opportunities in the future as a pleased Eddie Hearn applauded ringside.
