Ewa Brodnicka To Face Mikaela Mayer October 31 In Las Vegas

After WBO Women’s World Junior Lightweight champion Ewa Brodnicka (19-0, 2 KOs) and mandatory challenger Mikaela Mayer (13-0, 5 KOs) agreed to terms for a fight in August 2020, we now have further details where and when their showdown will take place.

Top Rank Promotions, who won the purse bid, announced on September 29 that Brodnicka and Mayer will face each other October 31 at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. It will be televised on ESPN and is the chief undercard for the main event WBA World Bantamweight “Super” champion Naoya Inoue and Jason Moloney.

The 29-year-old challenger from Woodland Hills, California has been boisterous on social media how she has earned and deserves a world title shot. She spoke to the boxing media about her preparation under the guidance of her coach Al Mitchell and is supremely confident she will leave the ring as the new world champ

“I’ve made huge improvements to my boxing skills over the last 10 months. You saw some of it in my last fight against Helen Joseph, but I’ve reached a whole new level this fight camp.

I’m more than prepared for this WBO world championship fight, and I will absolutely be going home with the belt. This fight will not go the distance. Ewa Brodnicka is not on my level, and her time is up.”

This will be the champion’s fifth world title defense, but her first fight outside of native Poland. Signing a deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing in August, the 36-year-old from Warsaw is excited to fight in the United States.

“I am excited that my title defense against Mikaela is happening in America, where I’ve always wanted to fight. I am more than ready for this opportunity and I would like to thank my promoters Eddie Hearn and Mariusz Grabowski for helping make this fight a reality.”

Despite her rather advanced age, Brodnicka feels she has a lot left in the tank and wants to prove as much against her younger foe. For her part, Mayer believes she is destined for greatness in the sport with aspirations of becoming undisputed champion at 130-pounds. She gets her chance to fulfill her great ambitions on Halloween in Las Vegas.
