Mayer confident in bringing home the belt, wants unification

Mikaela Mayer (13-0, 5ko) is never shy about telling it like it is, especially when it comes to her abilities in the ring. The former 2016 Olympian has been all over social media putting all the champions on notice. Since receiving a championship opportunity against WBO champion Ewa “Kleo” Brodnicka (19-0, 2ko), her confidence meter has gone way up.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Mayer first had her sights on WBC champion Terri “Belter” Harper (10-0-1). However, the champion would tell the challenger to get a belt then come hollar at me, kicking off a huge social media beef.

The former Olympian even got into a heated back and forth with the WBC champion’s trainer Stefy Bull. Mayer dropped gems on Twitter, eventually calling him a clown.

PLAYING THE SPOILER

British promoter Eddie Hearn was looking to make a unified mega-fight, featuring the WBC and WBO champions. However, as fate would intervene, the WBO organization ordered their champion to face Mayer, and many people felt that the WBC champion getting a draw against 2012 Olympian Natasha Jonas (9-1-1, 7ko) on August 7, was a gift.

Talks of a rematch between Jonas and the WBC champion are ongoing. Moreover, Mayer has all but guaranteed a victory against the WBO champion, which could put a damper in the British promoter’s plans of having an in-house unification match-up.

Taking to Twitter as always, the Top Rank female challenger let the verbal assault fly. She put Hearn, Harper, and whoever else holding a belt that after her victory, none of them are safe.
