Blair Cobbs Believes He’ll Be Too Much For A Slow Adrien Broner

In his next tour of duty, on June 6, welterweight boxer Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (16-1-1, 10 KO’s) will take on four division champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (35-4-1 24 KO’s). On paper, due to The Problem’s extensive resume, Broner should without question be the stiffest test of Cobb’s career.

For example, over the course of his career, the Cincinnati native has tangled with the likes of: Paul Malignaggi, Marcos Maidana, Mikey Garcia, Shawn Porter and Manny Pacquiao. Even more impressive than facing these competitors, the only one that can lay claim to actually dominating Broner was Marcos Maidana. Outside of him, Broner’s inability, or unwillingness to let his hands go, has always been his biggest self-inflicted hindrance.

Assuming that he is in shape however, it wouldn’t be a far-fetched idea to envision Broner having his way in the ring against Cobbs. The question remains though: Will The Problem come to the ring in fit fighting form?

NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

When last in the squared-circle, Broner locked horns with Bill Hutchinson in one rather lackluster performance. In that instance, it was evident that he was not in the best of shape. To his credit though, when he fought Hutchinson, Broner had been out of the ring for about two and a half years. Realizing that he could not continue to do battle in this fashion and take on the best in the division, The Problem insists that he has re-dedicated himself to the sport.

He has even begun training with WBA 140-pound champion Abdul “Tank” Wahid and his staff to prepare for The Flair. Regardless of these alterations, Cobbs is not impressed with the physical specimen that Broner is at the moment.

“He looked tired, he looked flustered and he looked like he is really, really trying his best to keep a slow pace so he doesn’t lose his energy. He’s very, very slow and methodical. He only has like a burst of maybe two or three punches at best and then he is done and he is gassed out . . . I think it’s too late for him to possibly think that he can even gather up enough strength, speed, patience and durability to handle Blair The Flair.”

So now that the talking is all but done and the fight is just around the corner, the only thing left to do is get in the right and show and prove!
