Adrien Broner gives Al Haymon an ultimatum
The hits just keep on coming and social media once again is in a frenzy! Former four-division champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33-4-1, 24ko) took to Instagram to give Premier Boxing Champions head honcho Al Haymon a serious demand.
FAMOUS OR INFAMOUS??
The self-proclaimed “Can-Man” has had a career that is the definition of being stuck in quicksand needing a lifeline. Arguably, the downward spiral in Broner’s career track began with losing the WBA welterweight championship Marcos “El Chino” Maidana (35-5, 31ko) back in 2013.
Now the Ohio native would bounce back with a couple of wins over the lower-level competition. However, a loss to former IBF champion “Showtime” Shawn Porter halted things even more. Then in 2018 came the allegations of battery. Moreover, there was the 2020 Las Vegas incident that resulted in an arrest. This wasn’t new to the boxing community, for “The Problem” had plenty of law issues going back to 2007. Moreover, it was becoming clear that it was issues outside the ring that made him more known for accomplishments inside the ring.
Although the former four-divisional champion would continue to remain relevant, it became a question of which fighter are we going to see. The term that became famously associated with the Ohio boxer was “Focused Broner”. It was more of a hopeful statement, but fans immediately turned it into a running joke.
STILL RELEVANT
Despite everything, the flamboyant aforementioned fighter was still able to land a high profile fight with then-WBA “regular” champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39ko). However, even after the defeat, the “brush my hair” boxer was calling out top junior welterweights like former WBA junior welterweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (24-1, 20ko).
Furthermore, social media was set on fire when the back and forth with WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15ko) went viral, which resulted in British promoter Eddie Hearn revealing an outrageous purse demand.
GOING TOO FAR
This all catches us up to the present. If the last list of events were entertaining, hold on, you can’t make this stuff up.
Broner may have over-stepped boundary lines. He decided to make a demand to the most influential advisor/manager in boxing, and Showtime top executive Stephen Espinoza., with a clear-cut message.
