Joshua Buatsi Says He’ll Need to be his Best Against Dan Azeez
In the light heavyweight division, undefeated contender Joshua Buatsi (17-0, 13KO) knows the importance in beating Dan “Super” Azeez (20-0, 13KO) in their upcoming showdown. With the possibility of fighting for the undisputed crown, he is ready to put on a flawless performance.
In 2023, the two undefeated contenders were on pace to fight in a domestic-level showdown that would have led to a possible title shot. However, Azeez had to pull out due to an injury resulting in the postponement of their WBA title eliminator.
WHY WINNING IS IMPORTANT
With their fight rescheduled for February 3 and a shot at undisputed on the line, Buatsi explained to Sky Sports Boxing, that winning the fight is imperative.
“I’ve got good rankings with all the government bodies. So right now, at this point, I can’t make any mistakes. There is no other way to say it. It’s very, very imperative.”
“It’s time to see who’s number one. There’s nothing else to do but fight to see whose hands are going to be raised at the end of it.”
These two top contenders have a well documented history. Once close friends, Buatsi and Super have gone from being sparring partners to rivals in pursuit of winning a world title.
Boxing fans were excited to learn that unified champion Artur Beterbiev and WBA champion Dmitry Bivol will finally battle to crown an undisputed champion. Both Buatsi and Azeez are ranked one and two, respectfully, by two sanctioning bodies. So, it is highly likely the winner is going to be next in line.
With so much on the line, boxing fans can expect both men to give it all they have, putting friendships and feelings aside.
