Coach Calvin Ford Welcomes the Opportunity to Train Ryan Garcia

Coach Calvin Ford, trainer for multi-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0, 27KO), was impressed with the efforts of junior welterweight contender “King” Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19KO). So much so that he likes the idea of one day training him.

Garcia wanted to silence all the detractors that believed he was mentally weak with a less-than-stellar resume by defeating Davis. Moreover, he was confident during the build-up to the fight of being able to knock out the Baltimore power puncher.

On April 22, the Californian came up short in his quest to defeat Davis. For those who may have thought that his career was done, King Ryan wasted no time in making it clear that he wanted all the top guys in the junior welterweight division.

CALVIN FORD HAS NO PROBLEM WITH TRAINING RYAN GARCIA

During an interview with Fight Hub TV, Ford was asked for his opinion on whether Garcia exchanged phone numbers with Davis with intent to train with him.

“I would take him with open arms because what he demonstrated that day, what he did was take the fight. That’s a fighter. He’d been asking for this fight when he first came on the scene. I can work with that [. . .] because it’s showing me true heart, regardless of what people say about him and whatnot. I go back and watch old videos of him asking for this fight when his own promoter said that he wasn’t ready . . . so that says a lot about him.”

In 2022, Garcia switched trainers from Eddy Reynoso to Joe Goosen. Their first fight together was against former WBA super featherweight champion Javier Fortuna, where they looked to work well together. If he is looking to switch trainers again, imagine the improvements Team Davis could help him with.
