Canelo Alvarez Is Returning To The Light Heavyweight To Face Dimitry Bivol!

After weeks and weeks of weighing two significant offers from PBC and DAZN, undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-1-2, 39KOs) has made his decision. On May 7, he will move back up to the light heavyweight division and challenge unbeaten WBA champion Dimitry Bivol (19-0, 11KOs). According to ESPN, the fight will take place on DAZN PPV with no location set at this time.

After considering a two-fight deal from PBC that would’ve seen him face WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo in May and former WBC super middleweight champion David Benavides in September, he ultimately elected to go with the DAZN two-fight offer. This includes if victorious over Bivol, a third fight with IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in September.

BIVOL FINALLY SECURES A BIG FIGHT!

At last, the long-reigning WBA champ finally gets the big fight he’s been seeking. He and Alvarez have been linked to possibly fighting each other for the last few years, with Bivol proclaiming he would drop down in weight to make the fight happen. Fortunately for him, he doesn’t have to do that.

Bivol, statistically, is a very difficult fight for Alvarez. His ring I.Q, and ability to box may provide much difficulty for the undisputed champion. The one knock on Bivol is his lack of aggression and offensive output. In order for him to win this fight, he’s going to have to let his hands go and be active from the moment the bell rings.

After a stellar 2021 in which Alvarez was named 3Kings Boxing Fighter Of The Year, the Mexican superstar will look to keep that success going in 2022.
