Gary Antuanne Russell Assured of Victory in Upcoming Fight with Viktor Postol

Gary Antuanne Russell (14-0, 14KOs) takes on the toughest challenge of his young career when he squares off with former WBC junior welterweight champion Viktor “The Iceman” Postol (31-3, 12KOs) on February 26. Russell will not only look to keep his unbeaten record intact, but also his knockout streak. Through fourteen career pro fights, no opponent is yet to go the distance.

Never one to lack confidence, the younger Russell brother had this to say about his fight with Postol:

“I’m very excited, you know. He only lost to the best. I know for a fact that I’m one of the best. So that already shows me that the writing is already in stone. He gonna lose to me. “

Gary Antuanne Russell is certain of victory, and with his skillset, how can you blame him? However, Postol is to be respected as a former world champion who, back in 2020, gave former unified 140-pound champion Jose Ramirez all he could handle, losing a majority decision. Another thing to consider is the current turmoil that Postol’s home country, Ukraine, is going through as they deal with the invasion of Russia. That surely has to be on his mind.

All in all, if Postol is there mentally, he should still have enough in the gas tank to give Russell a good fight. At 38 years old, a win is needed in order to stay in world title contention. As for Russell, he’s currently unranked. However, a win over Postol, who’s ranked #8 in the WBC, would surely change that.
