Carlos Adames vs Hamzah Sheeraz Produces No Winners
In a battle for the WBC middleweight title, Carlos Adames (24-1-1, 18KO) retained the title against Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17KO) after the fight ended in a draw.
Fans who thought they would see a shootout were disappointed early. Sheeraz used that long jab and tall stature to control the aggression of the WBC champion.
Fighting behind a pole-like jab, the Brit moved around the ring before landing thunderous body shots. Even when Adames mounted an offense surge, Sheeraz went back to keeping the fight at mid-range.
In the middle rounds, Adames found success with overhand rights. He may have closed the gap on the scorecards with effective aggression. The Dominican found success with a constant body attack and forced Sheeraz to fight off the back foot.
In the closing rounds, Sheeraz landed the more eye-catching shots. But, his refusal to follow up those hard shots may have been costly. With so much on the line, he needed to make a statement.
One judge scored a ridiculous 118-110 for Adames with one giving it to Sheeraz 115-114, and the last judge saw it 114-114, making the fight a draw.
