Cameron Blames Katie Taylor For Holding Up The Trilogy
One-time undisputed junior welterweight champion Chantelle “Il Capo” Cameron (18-1, 8KO) informed fans that two-division undisputed champion Katie “KT” Taylor (23-1, 6KO) is ducking the trilogy fight.
In 2023, after suffering the first defeat of her career, Taylor vowed to win the rematch and quickly invoked the rematch clause. The two women went into battle in KT’s home country of Ireland for a second time.
After ten grueling rounds, Taylor walked away with a majority decision victory and the undisputed crown. Some boxing fans believe Cameron should have won or gotten a draw. But the referee mistakenly ruled a knockdown a slip, causing her to lose the title.
During the post-fight interview, Taylor and Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn didn’t hesitate to call for the trilogy in Croke Park, the largest stadium in Ireland. Things went radio silent over the next several months as boxing fans were waiting to hear further updates.
SAY IT ISN’T SO
Well, it seems the trilogy isn’t going to happen as planned. Cameron has sent social media into an uproar with an update that indicates Taylor is the reason for the delay.
Cameron has every right to complain, especially if the claims are true and she took a pay cut to make the fight.
To be fair, Taylor has yet to tell her side of the story. One possible reason for the hold-up on the two-time undisputed champion’s side could be an issue trying to schedule a date for Croke Park.
In addition, KT could take a stay-busy fight and circle back around for the trilogy with Il Capo. She has already suffered a defeat and losing twice to someone of Cameron’s caliber hasn’t diminished Taylor’s accomplishments.
As of the writing of this article, there has been no response from anyone inside of Team Taylor.
