Jermall Charlo to Defend WBC Title Against Maciej Sulecki in Houston on June 18
Unbeaten 160-pound WBC champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (32-0, 22KOs) will make the fifth defense of his title when he takes on Maciej “Striczu” Sulecki (30-2, 11KOs) on June 18 in Houston, Texas. This bout comes together after talks between him and former WBO 154-pound champion Jaime Munguia fell apart.
This will be Charlo’s first fight since June 19, 2021, when he defeated Juan Macias Montiel via a unanimous decision. Sulecki, a former world title challenger, will get yet another opportunity to become world champion. In his first opportunity, he faced former WBO 160-pound champion Demetrius Andrade in June of 2019 and was thoroughly out-boxed for twelve rounds. He’s also faced former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs, losing a somewhat debatable decision back in April of 2018.
Obviously, this isn’t the fight fans wanted to see Charlo in. However, with the other middleweight champions preoccupied, Sulecki may have simply been the best contender they could find. Regardless, Charlo is sure to get highly criticized for yet another lackluster fight.
Hopefully he can secure a marquee fight, assuming he’s victorious over Sulecki, at some point in 2022.
