Jared Anderson Has his Eyes on a Fight with Arslanbek Makhmudov

When heavyweight Jared “Big Baby” Anderson (11-0, 11 KO’s) next slides through the ropes, on August 27, it will be his first prizefight of the year. In this affair, he will test his might against Montenegrin fighter Miljan Rovcanin. Anderson would have loved to been in the ring prior to this. In fact, he did have a match that was cancelled due to injury. Despite technically being on the sidelines, Big Baby has kept himself abreast of the going-ons in the division.

I CAN BREAK HIM!

One of the men that Anderson is keeping tabs on is Russian pugilist Arslanbek “Lion” Makhmudov (14-0 14 KO’s). Not only is Makhmudov a person of interest, he technically should be an easy fight to make. This is because the heavy-handed bruiser was recently signed to the same Top Rank promotional company that pushes Anderson. So when given a chance to speak on the matter, Big Baby was only too happy to let ThaBoxingVoice know that he was very open to the match-up.

“I want that fight ASAP! ASAP!”

When asked about his skillset, Anderson didn’t mince words.

“Mediocre. Strong, he look like he is strong, he got a lot of work though. He needs a lot of, how do I put this…he need to go to the basics. He need to go back and get his hands up, his feet right, all that!”

CASHING IN TOO SOON?

Makhmudov has been on 3Kings Boxing’s radar for a number of years, but he first garnered real attention for himself well back in 2012. This is when he made a great account of himself in the 2012 World Series of Boxing. Since that time, he has collected the scalps of notable, but faded fighters Samuel Peters and Mariusz Wach. Currently, Lion has a September 16 duel scheduled with weathered veteran Carlos Takam.

Granted that he prevails against Takam, Anderson versus Makhmudov does have all the elements of a great scrap. The question is: will Top Rank be willing to put these two fighters’ necks on the chopping block so early in their careers? First let’s see what the two boxers do in their next at bats.
